In April, the National Australian Pharmacy Students' Association (NAPSA) launched its inaugural 'Charity Cup' campaign in support of The Fred Hollows Foundation's Indigenous Programs.

Pharmacy students across the nation participated by holding events to raise funds and awareness, including BBQ's, trivia nights, live music nights, scavenger hunts, harbour cruises, social networking events, ice skating nights, lawn bowls afternoons and raffles.

The NAPSA Charity Cup Award was awarded to JCUPSA (James Cook University Pharmacy Students' Association in Townsville); recognising their efforts as the branch who raised the most money. JCUPSA held a successful trivia night, raising over $2,000!

Creativity was encouraged - some branches held events in themes relating to The Foundation's primary focus on eye health, like Western Australian Pharmacy Students' Association (WAPSA)'s pirate themed BBQ and 'Aye Eye Ball.' WAPSA, from Curtin University in Perth, was presented with the Charity Innovation Award for displaying the most originality, enthusiasm and passion for the cause in their fundraising activities.

At the NAPSA AGM dinner on the Gold Coast, NAPSA was proud to present The Foundation with a cheque for $7,735.45.

Pharmacy Awareness Chair and Charity Cup organiser, Amy Minett said, "This is a fantastic achievement, totally exceeding expectations! NAPSA is proud to have made such a huge contribution. Thanks must go to all participating branches for their enthusiasm, passion and hard work, ensuring Charity Cup was a phenomenal success in its first year."

NAPSA, representing Australia's future pharmacists, is proud to support The Foundation's unique and valuable work in 'Closing the Gap' between the health and life expectancy outcomes of Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.
